St Joseph’s Boys High School, Bengaluru is a boys’ day school affiliated with the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi and offers kindergarten to class XII education. The school was founded in 1858 and is managed by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits).
The mission of St Joseph’s is to “prepare men who will give themselves in service to others, to strive for excellence and not just competitiveness”. The school is well-reputed for offering excellent academic and extra-curricular education and boasts a roll-call of illustrious alumni including cricketers Rahul Dravid and Robin Uthappa, cartoonist Mario Miranda, and hotmail founder Sabeer Bhatia. The school caters for boys only from kindergarten to grade X and is co-educational in grades XI and XII.
The campus in central Bengaluru is spread over eight acres. The school offers two playgrounds – one in the school campus while the other is the cricket ground on MG Road. The cricket ground is solely used for cricket training. Football, hockey, basketball and other games are played on the ground within the school campus. The campus also provides a swimming pool and gymnasium. There is a fully-carpeted colorful indoor children’s park for kindergarten students.
The library is three-storeyed with a collection of over 40,000 volumes and subscription to over 30 magazines and dailies. The library also offers computers with internet access. Labs for physics, chemistry and biology are well-equipped and the computer lab can accommodate 100 students and offers high-speed internet connectivity.
The classrooms are bright and spacious and equipped with state-of-art audio-visual teaching aids with computer aided instruction systems. Each classroom has a 52″ LCD TV, and a computer with a broadband connection to the central server and the internet.
The school chapel is open for personal prayer to all students irrespective of their creed. There are three auditoriums on campus. The biggest one can seat 1,000 and the other two together can accommodate 1800.
St Joseph’s Boys High School is affiliated with the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CICSE). Students are prepared for the class X ICSE exam and class XII ISC exam. The school’s academic programme aims at excellence. Clubs related to various subjects such as physics, chemistry, biology, literary activities, history, Kannada, and computers encourage students to delve deeper into subjects.
Extracurricular
The school offers excellent sports infrastructure and coaching in swimming, basketball, football and cricket, in addition to the regular physical training. The school has a Boy Scout troop and a unit of the NCC. Inter-house games are held regularly.
Public speaking and elocution sessions are conducted as part of the regular schedule. Inter-class and inter-house debates are held periodically as are concerts. There are various clubs for math, physics, chemistry, biology, literary activities, history, Kannada, computers, craft, gardening and dramatics. Boys are expected to take part in debates, drama, scouting, or NCC. Every student is expected to attain proficiency in at least one of these activities.
The school’s Scout Troops comprises students from class V to X. They participate in the district level training camp, Rashtrapathi Training Camp, and other events. Many students have successfully obtained the President’s Award -Rashtrapathi Award. Three boy scouts took part in The International Jamboree held in London in July 2007.

Students are usually accepted into LKG, class V and class XI sections.
For admission to LKG, the student must have completed four years of age as on June 1.
For class V, the student must have completed 10 years of age as on June 1.
Class XI admissions are granted to students who have successfully completed and passed the ICSE examination.
Parents must register for LKG admission on the prescribed registration form. Shortlisted candidates are notified and called for interviews, and those who qualify are granted admission.
Admission to class V is open to students who are studying in recognized English medium schools and have been promoted to class V. The student must appear for a entrance examination in English, math and the second language (Kannada or Hindi) on an appointed date to seek admission.
Admission to class XI is open to students who have successfully passed ICSE. Candidates will be short-listed based on performance in the class X exam and other criteria.
St Joseph’s Boys’ High School, Bengaluru is ranked among the top 1o boys’ day schools in India by the EW India School Rankings 2020-21.
The Scout Troops of St. Joseph’s Boys High School have participated in the Rashtrapathi Training Camp and many students have obtained the President’s Award -Rashtrapathi Award. Three Boy Scouts of St Joseph’s Boys High School boys also took part in The International Jamboree held in London in July 2007.
