Overview

St. Karen’s Collegiate School, Jaitipur, Bihta (Patna) was founded in 2018 by Mr. D.P. Galstaun and his wife Mrs. L.B. Galstaun with the objective of “inculcating the basic human qualities such as respect, compassion, justice and integrity with a solid foundation of discipline and honesty that lead to a strong character.”

St. Karen’s is a minority Anglo-Indian Christian institution established by the Anglo-Indian Educational Society of St. Karen’s, which is a registered body. A constituent institution of St. Karen’s Group of Schools, the school’s name is derived from the novel KAREN. Authored by Marie Lyons Killilea, ‘KAREN’ is the inspiring true story of a little girl who triumphed over disaster and the delightful family who made her triumph possible.

Imbued with the same spirit of sacrifice, love, devotion and care for children, the school offers a curriculum that endeavours to teach them ‘Values that are Valued Forever’ and to ‘Shine to Outshine’ with the true Karenite Spirit.

St. Karen’s Collegiate School stands out with its holistic, child-centred approach to education that nurtures academic excellence alongside emotional intelligence, ethical values, and social awareness. Every initiative is anchored in the seven characteristics of a true Karenite — confidence, compassion, integrity, positivity, self-esteem, responsibility, and respect. The school’s distinctive strength lies in its ability to integrate strong academics with competency based learning, and life skills. St. Karen’s cultivates learners who are not only intellectually competent but also emotionally balanced and socially conscious.

Campus

Sited on a well-landscaped 3-acre campus, St. Karen’s Collegiate School hosts 80 modern classrooms equipped with smartboards and projectors, well-equipped labs for physics, chemistry, biology, maths, computer, a composite lab for middle school, and a library stocked with titles on diverse genres.

The campus also houses facilities for several sports such as Football, Volleyball, Athletics, Chess, Table Tennis, Kabbadi, swimming, among others.

Academics

Affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, St. Karen’s Collegiate School offers classes from LKG through Class 10. The school focuses on the five pillars of the Whole-Child Approach, where the pedagogy is carefully designed to evolve with the child — blending academic mastery, creativity, values, and emotional intelligence. The teaching-learning process across all levels encourages curiosity, collaboration, and confidence, ensuring that every Karenite learns with the head, heart, and hand in harmony.

Foundational Level (Kindergarten – Std. II)

As per NEP 2020, the foundational stage follows a holistic, experiential approach supported by a Holistic Report Card (HRC) that covers all domains — literacy, numeracy, awareness, aesthetic and creative development. The Comprehensive Phonics Programme strengthens language and reading fluency, while Active Maths builds conceptual understanding through manipulatives and play-based numeracy. Students engage in creative writing, and the CPA (Concrete–Pictorial–Abstract) approach ensures concept clarity in early maths. The inclusion of LSV (Life Skills and Values) through stories and role play, along with the School Safety Tool, fosters emotional growth, awareness, and responsible behaviour from the very start. Special attention is given to the handwriting , creative writing skills and vocabulary of the students.

Preparatory Level (Classes III–V)

At this stage, pedagogy integrates inquiry with structure through the UPAC – Bar Model (Singapore-based methodology) that promotes visual problem-solving in mathematics. The Supplementary Reader (SR) and CGPF (Context, Guess, Pronunciation, Form- part of speech) Vocabulary Programme enhance comprehension, fluency, and word power. Creative Writing modules nurture originality and expression. From Class IV upwards, School Cinema is introduced to build emotional intelligence and moral reasoning through film-based learning. Students also engage in interdisciplinary projects, connecting concepts across subjects and applying them to real-world contexts, promoting critical and integrated thinking.

Middle School (Classes VI–VIII)

In the middle years, the school has adopted the Thinking Classroom pedagogy in Maths for Competency based learning, which encourages dialogue, inquiry, and reflection. Students are trained to reason, articulate, and explore multiple perspectives through debates, collaborative learning, and project work. Lessons focus on conceptual understanding rather than content recall, supported by experiential tasks, research assignments, and integrated learning modules. From Class VIII onwards, the school follows Art integrated project-based learning to help students discover strengths, interests, and future pathways. Career counselling is integrated in the curriculum from class VIIIth upwards where students explore various careers through projects and are made aware through diverse sessions, seminars and expert talks.

Secondary/High School (Classes IX–X)

At the secondary level, teaching is aligned with CBSE’s competency-based and blended learning framework. These lessons combine traditional instruction with case studies, discussions, digital learning tools, and real-life application projects, educational trips and global exposure programmes like V-Yatra in collaboration with schools in Australia. Continuous evaluation through formative and summative assessments ensures academic rigour, while School Cinema and Life Skills sessions reinforce emotional resilience, ethical decision-making, and social responsibility. The school also provides pastoral guidance by our trained guidance counsellors who ensure that the children are aware of their own self, and can manage stress, develop healthy relationships and build resilience.

Across all levels, St. Karen’s Collegiate School fosters an emotionally intelligent, reflective, and inclusive learning culture. Every classroom is a space where students think deeply, act responsibly, and grow joyfully — reflecting the true spirit of the Karenite learner.

Moreover, the school invests generously in teacher development and welfare. Each academic year, 30 days are earmarked for teacher training including mandatory CBSE and Sahodaya training for all teachers.

Extracurricular Activities

The school offers a vibrant spectrum of extracurricular activities designed to develop confidence, creativity, and character. St. Karen’s students have participated in several CBSE cluster games and they actively participate in the Sports Club, Eco Club, Debate Club, Art Club, Music Club, and Editorial Club. The school conducts an annual spring camp ‘Meraki’, where students participate in various sports, literary, performing and visual art activities.

The School Council, entrusted with leadership and responsibility, stands at the forefront of developing and promoting the school’s social impact initiative Healthy Living. The Council works to inspire students to look beyond themselves, understand community needs, and participate in thoughtful service projects. Through sustained efforts, creative planning, and student-led leadership, the Council strengthens the school’s vision of “nurturing socially aware, responsible, and compassionate young citizens who can bring about positive change in their surroundings.”

The school also organises various inter-school competitions, community outreach programmes, Joy of Giving Week, educational visits, science exhibitions, and health sessions to enable students to learn beyond textbooks. The students actively participate in CBSE science competitions, and the CBSE Heritage Quiz. The Verbatim – Inter-School Debate Competition is aimed at enabling the students to gain confidence and enhance their communication skills. It also provides a platform for the young speakers to express their viewpoint with logic, and respect diverse perspectives.
