St. Mary’s School, Pune is a girls day school affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE).
Established in 1866, the private minority institution was initially run by the Sisters of the Community of St. Mary the Virgin, an Anglican order based in Wantage, England. In June 1976, Elizabeth Matthew was appointed principal and during her tenure the school’s enrollment increased from 840 to 2,700 students. The curriculum was enriched and various amenities were added to the school.
In June 1992, Matthew started a boy’s School, with one division of each class, from upper kindergarten to class X. The boys’ school is run on the same lines as the girl’s school, except that their timings are different. The girls’ school timings are from 8.40 am to 3.30 pm and the boys’ school from 7.40 am to 1.30 pm. On Saturdays the boys have school till 11 am.

St. Mary’s School is a day school spread over an impressive campus in the Cantonment area of Pune. Under its banner, it has separate sections for Girls’, Boys’ and a Co-ed Junior College.
The school campus, dotted with Gulmohar and Banyan trees, offers well-ventilated classrooms and contemporary academic and sports facilities. The building designs are a blend of the old and the modern. Facilities at St. Mary’s include a swimming pool, a large playground, laboratories, and four well stocked libraries.
The school prepares students for the class X Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) Examination. Proficiency in English is given great importance and it is compulsory for a student to pass in English.
Hindi is the second language and is taught from class I to X. Marathi is the third language and is taught from class V to VIII.
Indians who have lived abroad, and who have not studied Hindi till class VI in their previous school, may be exempted from the study of Hindi after the school receives permission to do so from CISCE, New Delhi. Such students may offer a foreign language as their second language.
In the pre-nursery and nursery the focus is on language development and social behaviour.
The school integrates the use of technology in the classroom with usage of various modern teaching methods.
Sports activities at St Mary’s include basketball, hockey, football and swimming. To ensure that every child gets a chance to participate, games and sports activities are held during school hours.
Co-curricular activities include regular inter-house debates, quiz and extempore speech competitions, drama, musical concerts.

PRE-NURSERY — GIRLS
The school offers only 70 seats in the girls pre-nursery section.
Eligibility:
The pre-nursery is only for girls. The child must have completed two years six months of age by 1st June of the admission year.
NURSERY– GIRLS
For admission into the girls nursery section, a child should have be four years. For instance for admission into the academic year beginning June 2013, a child should have been born on or before November 30, 2009. There are 30 seats available in the nursery section.
The application form should be submitted online.
PREPARARTORY – BOYS
Boys are admitted into the UKG section. All admission forms must be submitted online. 35 seats are available.
Procedure
Application forms must be filled online and submitted a print out of the same must be taken in November. Only the application form filled and downloaded from the school website is valid and all other forms will be rejected. A unique reference number printed on the application form is to be noted for all future communication regarding this application.
Parents are also required to prepare photocopies of the following documents and on these photocopies parents are required to mention the unique reference number.
After completion of the above, parents must visit the school office on a specified date in December between 9.30 am and 12.30. Rs.200 is to be paid for the application process. Meetings with the short-listed candidates and their parents will also be conducted in December and final result students will be informed of their admission over email in January.
