St. Thomas School (STS), New Delhi is a girls day school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi offering education from nursery through class XII.
Founded in 1930 by an English missionary Helen Jerwood, St. Thomas School, New Delhi has campuses in Karol Bagh and Mandir Marg localities of New Delhi. It is run by the Diocese of Delhi, Church of North India, and recognized by the Department of Education, Delhi. The school makes a conscious attempt to move away from the chalk-and-talk method of teaching, and uses contemporary methods of teaching to ensure holistic learning.
St. Thomas School, New Delhi is divided into two sections- the junior school located in Karol Bagh and the senior school located in Mandir Marg. The junior school has classes till Grade IV and the senior school has classes from Grades V to XII. Each school has a library managed by a librarian and other staff. The senior school library has 18000 books, 40 periodicals and magazines, and six daily newspapers.
The school also offers fully furnished science labs, maths labs, home science labs, art room and three computer labs. Other facilities include the senior school auditorium- the Helen Jerwood Auditorium- named after the founder of the school and equipped with the latest sound and lighting systems and capable of seating 1000 people. Both buildings have a sports playground and a massive garden for students. The campus also houses a five-bed infirmary with a qualified nurse, an open air stage and a summer hall in Mussoorie called Prospect Lodge.
St. Thomas School, New Delhi is affiliated with the CBSE board and offers education from Nursery through class XII. It follows the system of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE). Individual attention and guidance are provided to help students to put in their best. In the higher secondary classes, the school offers three streams – science, commerce and humanities.
Contemporary methods of teaching and use of ICT makes learning more meaningful.
Extracurricular
The sports curriculum of STS includes tennis, basketball, swimming, badminton, chess and relay race. The school encourages students to take part in various co-curricular activities such as music, dance, debate and drama. Students also participate in community-building workshops and activities.
