United Kingdom based Staffordshire University has announced comencement of admissions for its B.Sc (Honours) Cyber Security programme. The deadline for submitting applications is May 31, 2017.
Today, all IT-enabled organisations having a computer network or using the internet have a potential security risk. Therefore, an increasing need is being felt for professionals with specialised skills to help protect the organisation’s systems and data. Staffordshire University’s BSc (Hons) Cyber Security programme, offered by the Department of Computing within the School of Computing and Digital Technologies, has been designed to equip learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills to identify risks and issues with computer systems, to understand the impact of cybercrime and events upon business and the public and to be able to identify and implement specific security practices, features and techniques to enhance the security of computer and computer based systems.
The programme is designed to ensure that the knowledge gained by students will complement and support them in their role as a Cyber Security specialist, with particular emphasis on the gaining of practical skills and experience, supported by detailed and in-depth knowledge of both the specific field of Cyber Security and the wider field of computing hardware and software, such as cloud computing and security.
The university is also a member of the Cyber Security Information Sharing Partnership, which is a government sponsored organisation of industry and university organisations to share information about current and developing cyber risks and attacks so that organisations can swiftly respond to on-going attacks. The embedding of certifications within the programme, namely Encase, XRY Logical and Ethical Hacking, gives students a great advantage in employability and experience, as these are internationally recognised, industry standard certifications. Guest lectures and Q&A sessions with external specialists from the Police and Industry add to the learning experience.
The programme culminates with a final year project, where students work independently to investigate, critically analyse and create practical solutions to a Cyber Security problem of their choice and eventually demonstrate the outcomes of this project to potential employers at GradEx, the university’s very own exposition of student work.
