American streaming media outfit Netflix has partnered with India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to float a contest offering students the chance to attend an international Media & Entertainment Summit in Mumbai by creating trailers, sourced from Netflix’s extensive content library.

Unlocking Creativity, powered by Netflix Fund for Creative Equity as part of the upcoming global summit, has been designed to  equip  young aspiring filmmakers to work in the Media and Entertainment sector.

WAVES is an acronym for the World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit organised by the Indian Government to assemble top media CEOs,  entertainment icons, and creative minds from across the globe with the objective of position India as numero uno in M & E, emulating Davos in the economic sector.

Through expert-led training sessions, participants will learn key skills in storytelling, video editing, and sound design, preparing them to craft high-quality trailers. The mentorship and hands-on experience, will culminate in a final competitive showcase judged by industry professionals.

Talented participants will receive valuable feedback, and have the chance to win  prizes, Netflix subscriptions and branded merchandise.

The competition is open to students who should be at least 18 years of age.

The application form https://reskilll.com/hack/wavesficci/signup  requires information, such as creative background and reasons for participating. The application deadline is March 31st 2025.

Trailers will be evaluated by a panel of industry experts based on creativity, storytelling, technical execution, and overall impact. The screening process will happen in multiple rounds, with feedback provided to participants throughout.

All participants will receive a certificate. The Top 20 participants will receive a Certificate of Excellence, a trophy, Netflix merchandise, and travel reimbursement to attend WAVES 2025. The Summit was originally slated to take place last November in Goa on the sidelines of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI).  It  has since been shifted to the Jio World Center in BKC Mumbai.
