Ind Vs Aus match

The first ODI of the season was played between India and Australia in Mumbai’s Wankhade stadium on Janaury 14, 2020. A group of students, who attended the match wore T-shirts with messages displaying “No CAA”, “No NRC” and “No NRP”. They stood in a line while cheering for team India’s victory.

The Mumbai Police escorted these students out for the same.

Prior to the match, the stadium announced new rules for security in light of the CAA protests. It mentioned no banners with messages are to be brought to the stadium and there would be intense scrutiny of those in black.

Following the students being escorted out, they claimed that they were well within their rights to wear the clothes of their choice. They further told India Today, “We reached Wankhade stadium India vs Australia match for peacefully showing our message – No NPR, NO NRC and NO CAA. We did not do anything apart from silently showing our message, which was written on our t-shirts. BCCI rules also allow anyone to display any message apart from commercial messages.”
