Summer camps across the city have commenced in full swing, bringing respite to children who remained indoors for the past two years owing to lockdowns induced by the Covid-19 pandemic.
From fine art, theatre to electronics and STEM, the options available this year are plenty. While some are priced at Rs 1,500 per week, the others, requiring equipment and raw material go up to Rs 15,000. While others which have outdoor activities begin from Rs 15000 and may continue up to Rs 35,000 or more.
For nature enthusiasts or aspiring naturalists, The Outback experience is organizing nature-oriented camps, talks on conservation, and birdwatching sessions while also teaching camera handling to the uninitiated.
“Last 2 years we were off because of the situation. We have been organizing camps for children at our campus near Bannerghatta. In between lockdowns, we announced short-term programmes only. At that point in time, parents were an apprehensive lot. Post vaccinations being taken, parents are a lot more open to sending their children now,” said Phillip Ross, co-founder, director, The Outback Experience.
Anahita from The Green Pocket said that even as the camps were not conducted in a full-fledged manner, children met atleast two hours a week whenever feasible over the last two years. “Workshops are for pre-school and nursery students. Fee is the same as that of last year. This year, the only change we noticed was that children were slightly anxious with others around,” she recollected.
Outlife will organise their summer camps between April 27 and May 1 at Tumakuru. “The response is great. 15 children have already registered themselves,” said Diyanat Ali, director, Outlife.
A typical day here would start with making their own tents and involves various forms of learning. “Our summer camp is based on Experimental Education, Adventure Education, Nature-based Learning, location-based learning, challenge-based learning and socio-emotional learning.
For those looking to head out of the City, Bengaluru-based ‘Inme’ has 70 programmes year-round at various locations of which the Yercaud is one of the most sought after. “We are quite full on most of our programmes. This year we are running at 2,400 capacity and are priced at approximately 34,900. This year, we will organise camps at Coorg, Bhillar, Kedarkantha, Tons, Naukuchiatal, Sitlakhet and Tirthan. We also have indoor activities too,” said Subbu, who coordinates for the camp.
