The Supreme Court will today hear a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by aspirants seeking greater transparency in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2025. The case was urgently listed as the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is set to begin admissions for All India Quota (AIQ) seats from 5 September.
The petition challenges the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences’ (NBEMS) decision to withhold the full set of questions. Earlier, NBEMS had announced it would, for the first time, release the answer key, response sheets and questions. However, it later revised this, stating only question IDs and answer keys would be shared.
Aspirants and medical associations argue this format is insufficient, calling it “non-verifiable” and lacking transparency. With over 2.42 lakh candidates having appeared for the exam on 3 August, petitioners maintain that timely resolution is critical to ensure fairness before counselling begins.
The matter will be heard by Justice Pardiwala, who has previously ruled on examination transparency. Meanwhile, NEET PG 2025 results and the AIQ merit list have already been published, with the official counselling schedule expected shortly on the MCC website.
