Sushila Birla Girls’ School, Kolkata is an all girls day school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. Founded in 1994, the school was a materialisation of the dream of industrialist and philanthropist Sri Lakshmi Niwas Birla. The school’s mission is to empower the girl child. With the British Council International School Award (2013-2016) and other global initiatives, it aims to create global citizens with excellent exposure to different fields of study.
The school campus is spread over a space of roughly an acre and hosts well-stocked and computerised libraries for primary and senior sections, well-equipped labs for chemistry, biology, physics, computer and geography, medical infirmary, canteen, AV room and facilities for outdoor sports and indoor games.
The campus also hosts facilities for basketball, volleyball, badminton, tennis, athletics, darts, rowing, carrom and chess.
Affiliated with CBSE, the school offers classes from Kindergarten through class XII.
In the primary school, the teaching methodology is activity-based and offers integrated learning rather than instructing individual subjects. There are no examinations till class V and reviews are done through continuous evaluation. Children are taken on field trips to places of interest such as the museum, the GPO, etc.
In the middle school, the emphasis is on computer aided lessons, group discussions and interactive sessions. Self-learning is encouraged. Reviews at this level are also done through continuous evaluation.
In the senior school emphasis is on group discussions, interactive sessions, presentations and informative lectures. Continuous evaluation is done through unit tests, term examinations and final examinations. Subject combinations for classes XI and XII are as follows:

The school conducts flexible remedial classes after school hours and regular counselling sessions are conducted by in-house counsellors. The school also offers full scholarships for students displaying academic excellence. Regular orientation programs are conducted for parents.
Extracurriculars
Students can engage themselves in rhyme, rhythm and raga club, art and craft club, guitar club, drama and elocution club, synthesiser club or music club.
They also get to participate in the annual concert, Hindi Diwas and special assembly. Cultural programmes and inter-school as well as intra-school competitions help students sharpen their skills and showcase their talents.
Sports coaching is provided in basketball, volleyball, badminton, tennis, athletics, kabaddi, kho-kho, darts, rowing, carrom and chess.

Sushila Birla Girls’ School bagged the Winners Trophy in 2011 at the “Seventh Asian Regional Space Settlement Design Competition” at Gurgaon, Delhi, organised by Johnson Space Center, Houston, NASA and Atlantis Research.
