Target Publications Pvt. Ltd., a leading publisher, has unveiled a scholarship program that will finance over 100 deserving SSC and HSC students from Maharashtra all the way to graduation.

Agasti Lawand, Executive Director of Target Publications, wished all students  a bright future and proceeded to express concern about students who abandon their education due to financial constraints.

“This scholarship program is our answer,” he said. “We want to empower these students, and help them reach their full potential thereby contributing to a stronger India.”

India is plagued by poverty, school drop outs and shortage of teachers. In an effort to combat these problems,  the government commenced a number of free education schemes after the Right to Education (RTE) was enacted on 4 August 2009, regarding free and compulsory education for children between 6 and 14.

The Act came into force on 1 April 2010 and mandates all private schools to reserve 25% of seats to children to be reimbursed by the state. It may be noted that these admissions  are based on economic status or caste based reservations.

In February this year, Maharashtra’s  school education department  issued a gazette notification exempting private unaided schools from the mandatory 25% admission quota for disadvantaged  and weaker groups.( Kerala and Karnataka already have similar rules. Karnataka’s 2018 gazette notification is under judicial scrutiny)

Target will select talented students from economically deprived backgrounds. The scholarship will cover  both tuition costs and books until graduation.

To apply for this scholarship, students can email their exam results to adm.targetpublications@gmail.com
