In a shocking incident, a five-year-old student reportedly lost an eye after being allegedly slapped by a government school teacher in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Although the incident occurred on January 27 at a government primary school in the Nigohi area, where Shruti Singh was posted as a teacher, the FIR could not be lodged until May 4.
According to the police, the teacher allegedly slapped the minor after he scratched her car. The boy’s family members have alleged that his right eye came out due to the impact of the slap. The teacher has been booked under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 326 (causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the Indian Penal Code, and an FIR was registered on May 4 on the district court’s order.
Police circle officer Amit Chaurasia said that a two-member committee has been formed by the department to probe the incident. He added that, on the basis of a prima facie investigation, it seems the boy is suffering from some serious disease that resulted in the loss of his eye.
Likewise, District Basic Shiksha Adhikari Kumar Gaurav also does not seem convinced by the allegations. He said the incident seems suspicious, and that’s why the teacher has not been suspended. He added that the teacher has given her side of the story and online attendance records show that she was on leave the day the incident took place. Kumar Gaurav also stated that a separate inquiry with the villagers revealed that the boy is suffering from some serious disease.
The incident has caused outrage and concern among parents and teachers alike. It has once again brought to the forefront the issue of corporal punishment in schools and the need for strict measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
The education department has stated that it is taking the matter seriously and will take appropriate action once the investigation is complete. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of providing a safe and nurturing environment for children in schools.
