A 16-year-old girl in Maharashtra’s Thane district allegedly committed suicide after her father asked her not to download a messaging app on her mobile phone.
The police said on Monday that the teen took the extreme step angered over her father’s advice against using a messaging app. The incident took place on Friday night at Nilje in Dombivli area, they said.

The police said that the girl had downloaded Snapchat application on her mobile phone. Her father asked her not to do so. This upset her, an official from Manpada police station said.
Following the incident, it is suspected that the agitated girl hanged herself from the ceiling of a bedroom in her house on Friday night. The family was caught unaware and found her dead the next day.
After being alerted, the police sent the body for postmortem and registered a case of accidental death, the official said.
