Telangana may shut down schools again due to rising Covid-19 cases

Telangana Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao recently said that the state government will take a decision soon on whether to shut down schools across the state for a second time due to rising number of Covid-19 cases.  

Around 140 students and teachers have tested positive for Covid-19 in Telangana. Zilla Parishad Girls High school, Mancherial reported 56 cases and Telangana Minorities Residential Girls School, Balanagar reported 38 cases. Rao said he has reviewed the situation, especially in Mancherial and other districts.

Authorities recently reopened schools for Class 6 to 10. 

“The CM will also take a decision on holding examinations for students up to Class 9,” a senior official said.

Earlier, 54 students of a school near Haryana have tested Covid-19 positive that led to the suspension of classes and other academic activities, an official had said. Karnal Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Yogesh Sharma said three students of Sainik School Kunjpura had tested positive for the virus on Monday, March 1, 2021, following which the health department took samples of 390 students and staff members of the school for testing. Sharma said, “The reports revealed that 54 students are Covid-19 positive.”
