Overview

The Bishop’s School, Pune is an English medium, day-cum-boarding school for boys affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi.  It is a private, unaided (independent) minority school, for boarding and day students between Nursery and 12th grade. Sited amidst verdant surroundings in the cantonment area of Pune, it was founded on July 19, 1864 by Bishop Harding, the adjutant general of the British Indian Army.

Campus

The Bishop’s School hosts 75 large, well ventilated classrooms, two well resourced libraries, two assembly halls and a dining hall with a seating capacity of 250. The school houses three well equipped science laboratories, six large and airy dormitories with a television set, water filters and electric iron each.

The school also houses a cyber cafe, STD/ISD pay phone booth, a 24 hour power supply generator, solar water facilities, a full screen 3m LCD projector room and a 20 bed infirmary operated by trained professional nurses and well known paediatricians.

Sports facilities provided by the school include badminton, football, cricket, basketball, table tennis, hockey, volleyball, chess, swimming, and tennis. 

Academics

The school provides education up to the 10+2 level (ICSE and ISC). Boys are prepared for examinations conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi. The Council is recognized by both houses of Parliament and has the assent of the President of India.

The syllabus of the junior school and middle school is based on the recommendation of the Inter State Board for Anglo-Indian Education and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations. The course of studies includes Moral instruction, reading, writing, mathematics (integrated), physics, chemistry, biology, general science, history, geography, crafts, Hindi, Marathi, Sanskrit, English language and literature, computers, physical training, commerce and SUPW. The medium of instruction throughout is English with Hindi being the second/ and Sanskrit/Marathi/French being the third language.

Great stress is placed on co-curricular activities and character building programs. Co-curricular activities include sporting activities such as Basketball, Volleyball, Hockey, Football, Cricket, Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess, Lawn Tennis, Boxing, Swimming, Roller Skating and Billiards. The school encourages students to participate in district and state level marathon tournaments, under the training and guidance of special coaches from the Army School of Physical Training. The school also promotes clubs for activities like billboards, cooking, debate, quiz, taekwondo, maths, art and craft, computers, horticulture and SUPW, environmental education and SUPW, Scouts, DEAS, darts, graphics and drama club.

The Bishop’s School Pune was a recipient of the Commonwealth Youth Games Pune Award in the year 2008.

The school has bagged the PSAAA football cup 18 times and the All India Anglo-Indian football cup thrice. It also bagged the PSAAA cricket cup seven times.
