Overview

The International School Bangalore (TISB) is a private educational institution located in the outskirts of Bangalore, India. It was founded in 2000 by Dr. K. P. Gopalkrishna, is a sister school of the National Public Schools, Bangalore. The school is affiliated to the international Baccalaureate Organisation, Geneva and the Cambridge Assessment International Examinations. TISB was ranked among the top international day-cum-boarding schools in the EW India School Rankings.

Students of TISB take the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examinations at the end of the class X, followed by a two-year International Baccalaureate diploma.

The focus of the school is not just on academic excellence but also on all-round development of students. Another notable point about this school is that the session ends somewhere in August when most of the Indian competitive exams are over. The staff at TISB said their focus is on getting students into premier institutes in USA, UK, and Australia etc.

Campus

The International School Bangalore spacious grounds are attractively landscaped, creating a welcoming environment and providing pleasant meeting places for pupils during breaks.

The academic facilities are designed to include libraries, banks of computers online permanently, well-equipped laboratories, a large art studio, a drama space, a music room, an audio-visual room and a state of the art auditorium that can seat 1,400 people.

In a similar manner, the co-curricular program too has a wide range of facilities: a 400-metre athletic track, hockey, cricket and football fields, a 25-metre swimming pool, basketball, volleyball, tennis, squash and badminton courts, a billiard room and a gymnasium.

Academics

The International School Bangalore is affiliated to the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) examinations. The school is also a member of the Cambridge International Primary Programme (CIPP).

The primary years (3 to 11 year olds) follow the National Curriculum for England and The Cambridge International Primary Programme. The core subjects are emphasised and the curriculum is enriched with a trans-disciplinary process that prepares young students to be self-confident and respectful of other cultures.

The early secondary years (11 to 15 year olds) when the student’s activities are increasingly discipline-based in preparation for the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) Examination in class X. In classes XI and XII, the school follows the IB Diploma Programme.

Extracurricular:

Students are involved in numerous activities which emerge from their sheer enthusiasm. Monday afternoons are devoted to co-curricular, but so too are many other moments during the week and weekends. The school hosts Vivum festival of arts and sciences which attracts participation from schools all over India and which is solely organized by the students themselves. Art Society, Business@school, chess, dance, drama, electronics, indoor games, creative writing, music, scrabble, speech and debate are other areas of student interest.

Admission

The International School Bangalore runs from August to June and admissions are normally completed between January and June for most classes.

There are entrance tests and interviews for entry into the middle and senior schools. Students should be of good academic ability and of good character. The school may ask for references, since living together at the school is really as important as following its academic programs

Students at TISB are placed in grades according to their age on August 31st of the year of entry. TISB adheres strictly to the age criteria laid out below and its decision on grade placements is final.

Fees: approx Rs 5, 60,000 (day scholar) and Rs 6, 50,000 (boarder)

Achievement

The International School Bangalore is affiliated to the international Baccalaureate Organisation, Geneva and the Cambridge Assessment International Examinations. TISB was ranked at the No 5 position by the EW C-fore survey of “Most respected schools in India “ 2011 and at the No 7 position in the 2012 survey of “India School Rankings”.

Accommodation

The boarding team is headed by the principal who is supported by highly qualified and skilled teaching and residential staff, including the housemasters and housemistresses, assistant housemasters/mistresses, residential house staff, housemothers and a range of support staff.

There are three boarding houses, The Girls International House (GIH), the Boys International House (BIH) and the Junior Boys International House for students from classes III-XII. Each child is under the supervision and care of a boarding housemaster or housemistress responsible for his or her specific age group. Each purpose-built boarding house provides modern amenities including attractive bedrooms accommodating two, three or four students, superb bath and shower facilities, comfortable common and recreational rooms, a quiet area and a library.
