The NorthCap University, Gurugram in collaboration with Metrology Society of India (Northern Region) organised the 5th National Conference on Advances in Metrology (AdMet-2017) from March 23 to 25. The theme of the conference was: Reference Materials, Sensors and Measurement Techniques for Precision Industrial Metrology. The inaugural address was delivered by Professor Krishan Lal, co-chair, Inter Academy Panel on Sciences, former president, INSA, and former director, NPL on the topic Precision Measurements – A Key to Progress in Science. More than one hundred registered participants from all over India, from research institutes/ organisations, quality calibration and testing centres, industries attended the conference.
On the occasion, Prof. Lal presented an illuminating talk elaborating how enhancements of measurement precisions have always resulted not only in the economic progress of the society but also resulted in discovery of new science.
Speaking on the occasion, pro-vice chancellor, Brigadier S.K. Sharma thanked the organisers and sponsors for successfully organising the conference and expressed the hope it would help forge new linkages among participants and faculty from The NorthCap University for research collaborations.
Prof Prem Vrat, pro-chancellor, The NorthCap University congratulated the organisers for hosting the conference on an important topic which has special relevance to mechanical industries. The conference was also graced by the presence of Prof. E.S.R. Gopal, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar awardee, former director, National Physical Laboratory and emeritus professor at Indian Institute of Science Bangalore.
During the three day conference, about eighty original research papers including plenary and invited talks were presented in nine oral and three poster sessions.
