Erstwhile headquarters of the Peshwas (prime ministers) of the Maratha Empire, Pune is the largest city (516.18 sq. km.) in Maharashtra and the ninth most populated city in India (pop.6.8 million). Fringed by the Sahayadri mountain ranges and situated at the confluence of the Mula and Mutha rivers, Pune enjoys a moderate climate throughout the year.
