Tripura: NCERT team to review Vidya Pravesh implementation

November 4, 2024

A six-member NCERT team is set to visit Tripura from November 5-7 to evaluate the implementation and impact of the Vidya Pravesh program for Class 1 students, according to an official statement. Vidya Pravesh, a foundational school preparation module recommended by NCERT, is designed to ensure that all newly admitted Class 1 students reach a common learning level, regardless of their prior educational background.

The team will conduct on-site reviews across various districts, including Gomati, West Tripura, Sepahijala, and Khowai, assessing the effectiveness of Vidya Pravesh in bridging educational gaps. “Given that students come from diverse backgrounds—whether pre-primary schools, Anganwadi centers, or directly from home—the program is crucial to provide a standardized foundation before starting the formal curriculum,” said Abhijit Samajpati, Officer on Special Duty for the School Education Department.

The Vidya Pravesh program focuses on building core competencies in Class 1 students, such as recognizing all letters of the alphabet, reading simple words, and identifying numbers up to 10. To support this, Tripura has implemented a nine-week bridge course that runs from the beginning of the academic year, offering structured learning activities and materials.

In an earlier assessment in June, the NCERT team observed that Vidya Pravesh had positively impacted student readiness and was impressed by the creative use of teaching-learning materials (TLMs) in classrooms. The evaluation also included interactions with teachers and parents, gathering feedback on both the strengths and challenges of the program.

This upcoming phase of evaluation will provide a more comprehensive view of Vidya Pravesh’s outcomes, highlighting its effectiveness in preparing students for the primary curriculum. The feedback and findings will help further refine and potentially expand the program to enhance foundational learning across more schools in the region.
