Udayachal High School Vikhroli East, Mumbai, is a coeducational day school affiliated with the SSC Board of Maharashtra and British Council. The school was founded by entrepreneur and visionary Late Pirojsha Godrej in 1955 and follows the motto “Tamso ma jyotirgamaya”, which means from darkness, lead me to light. The school boasts a strength of approximately 1355 students from Nursery through class X.
Udayachal High School is also accredited by the ISA or International School Award of the British Council.
The school building called Shantiniketan hosts four floors that house a well stocked library, and separate science laboratories for physics, chemistry and biology. There are also three computer laboratories, a knowledge center which offers students easy access to periodicals, audio-visual resources, internet and other subject-related information. A multipurpose auditorium on the ground floor is used for assemblies, concerts, lectures and gatherings and indoor games.
In the art room children work on collages, paintings, drawing and craft and spray painting. The music room is equipped with a wide range of musical instruments for learning Hindustani Music and modern musical instruments. There is also a pottery room, a technical room and a cafeteria. There are about 38-39 classrooms and every classroom is equipped with an interactive board and a projector.
The campus also includes a hockey ground, handball ground, football ground, volleyball court and a lawn.
The school follows the syllabus prescribed by the SSC board and is also affiliated with the British Council. Tests are conducted periodically and examinations are held at the end of every term. There are supervisors for English, Hindi, Marathi, math and science.
There are 30 to 36 students in each class who are managed by one class teacher and other subject teachers. Students can choose between either Hindi-Sanskrit or Hindi-French or only Hindi after the seventh grade.
