The University Grants Commission (UGC) has directed higher education institutions (HEIs) across the country to observe International Yoga Day on June 21 and appoint a Nodal officer to oversee participation.
In a letter written by UGC Secretary Sudeep Singh Jain to vice chancellors of universities and principals of colleges, higher education institutions have been instructed to follow a set of guidelines in this regard.
This is the 9th year of the International Yoga Day celebrations. “The thrust of the IDY observation this year is “Harmonious Mass Yoga Demonstrations’ and the theme for this year is “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”. The Domestic tagline for IDY ’23 is “Har Aangan Yog” being propagated to bring Yoga to every household at the grassroot level,” the letter reads.
A copy of general rules to be followed during the International Day of Yoga 2023 program and an indicative list of activities that can be undertaken and a handbook informing of the activities prepared by the Ministry of Ayush have been circulated.
Besides, HEIs are required to appoint a Nodal Officer to keep track of the number of people participating in the event of IDY-23 and submit a report to the ministry of Ayush in the prescribed format.
Some recommendations include:
- Using social media platforms for promotion
- Displaying International Yoga Day logo on websites
- 15-day online training (1 hour per day) on Common Yoga protocol
- Yoga-related activities such as online lectures, workshops by Yoga experts
- Distributing Yoga outfit, Yoga mats, and other Yoga related goodies
