Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar launches Future-Ready Skills for 4 lakh Kerala youth

March 6, 2024

To expedite skill development and equip India’s talent with cutting-edge skills, Kerala has initiated the Future Ready, Job Ready Skills program under the next phase of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). Aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, this initiative, driven by PMKVY 4.0, aims to impart futuristic skills to around 4 lakh individuals over the next three years. Focusing on areas like Additive Manufacturing, 3D printing AI, Drone Manufacturing, and Electric Vehicle Service Technician training, the program promises to meet the demands of emerging industries. Accessible through various educational institutes, it ensures quality skill training for enhanced employability.

With PMKVY alone training 1.50 crore youth since 2015, and the addition of over 350 new-age skills, the government has consistently fortified the skill ecosystem. The establishment of 5000 new ITIs in the last 9.5 years and engagement of over 28 lakh apprentices under the National Apprenticeship Program highlights the commitment to skill development. Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar emphasized that knowledge with skills is powerful and pledged to empower Kerala’s youth with Future Ready skills, ensuring opportunities for all.

Additionally, a German Language Training Program for Healthcare Professionals was launched, offering linguistic proficiency for effective communication with German-speaking patients. The Language Proficiency Program at the National Skill Training Institute, Thiruvananthapuram, in collaboration with IGNOU, provides comprehensive courses in German and Japanese languages, bridging the gap between vocational training and higher education. This collaborative effort aims to create a skilled workforce capable of excelling in the dynamic global economy.
