The Bangalore-based Mindlogicx Infotech Ltd, a R&D-based technology company, in association with Dun & Bradstreet India, one of the world’s leading companies for global business information, launched Universities of India 2008 in Bangalore on January 24. Smt. D. Purandareswari, Union minister of state for human resource development, released the publication at a coterminous knowledge conclave. The conclave was attended by over 50 vice-chancellors of premier universities and leaders of top corporate houses from across India.
“Release of this publication is our first initiative to showcase the knowledge base of Indian universities to the world, and more specifically to their potential industry partners. We are committed to making this an annual event,” said Suresh Elangovan, managing director and chief executive of Mindlogicx Infotech, speaking on the occasion.
Universities of India 2008 documents the achievements of prominent universities across India. A total of 165 universities and tertiary education institutions under the purview of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and/or the Union ministry of human resource development, have been covered in the publication. These comprise 40 percent of state universities, 28 percent of deemed universities, 18 percent of institutes of national importance, 9 percent of Central universities, 3 percent private universities and 2 percent open universities. Universities which provided sufficient information were chosen for analysis. D&B India also conducted a talent study based on a survey of 125 Bombay Stock Exchange listed companies, in which senior managers of their human resource departments voiced opinions about the education system and employment situation in India.
