June 3, 2024

Chancellor Lord Karan Bilimoria of Chelsea led the University of Birmingham’s largest academic delegation to India.

During his visit, Lord Bilimoria engaged with key partners, including Hindustan Petroleum Company Limited’s (HPCL) Green R&D Centre in Bengaluru. This followed the launch of a partnership between the University and HPCL in February to develop a cutting-edge hydrogen dispensing system aimed at transforming India’s transport sector.

Lord Bilimoria also met with leaders at NITI Aayog, the Government of India’s public policy think tank, to discuss the University’s activities in India. Additionally, he spoke on entrepreneurship at Atlas Skilltech University in Mumbai, drawing from his own business experiences.

His visit coincided with the launch of a Joint Masters program in Sustainable Energy Systems between the University of Birmingham and IIT Madras, building on the previous year’s introduction of their first Joint Masters program in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

Reflecting on the visit, Lord Bilimoria expressed enthusiasm, stating, “Leading the University of Birmingham delegation to India in May, covering Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, and Pune, I was accompanied by 20 academics and the provost of the University of Birmingham Dubai. This was a fantastic opportunity to meet some of our key research and education partners and to engage with hundreds of bright minds considering joining the University of Birmingham.”
