Overview

Founded in July 27, 1916, the University of Mysore (UoM) was founded during the reign of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, the Maharaja of Mysore. It is a public state university located in Mysuru (Mysore), Karnataka. The university started with only two faculties of Arts and Science. In 1917, the engineering faculty and in 1918, the M.Sc. faculty was added.

The University of Mysore was first accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with five star status in 2000 and has been reaccredited in 2006 withA+ grade. In 2013, NACC reaccredited the university withA gradeagain.

Today, UoM offers 42 postgraduate departments, 2 postgraduate centres and one satellite centre at Chamarajanagar with 3 postgraduate departments.

Campus

UoM’s campus hosts excellent infrastructure for curricular and co-curricular activities. It hosts a world class computer centre, international centre, Folklore museum, health centre, day care centre, and UGC-CSIR (NET) coaching centre. The main campus features an amphitheater, an auditorium, a swimming pool, and hostel accommodations for men and women.

The library features a collection of about 6.2 lakh books, reference works and journal back volumes. The E-resource portal facilitates access to 6500 UGC-INFONET E-journals, 7000 open access journals, 17000 licensed e-books, Lakhs of OA e-books, a number of databases, e-thesis, institutional repositories and other information sources.

Sports facilities include cricket stadium, tennis courts, gymnasium and a well-maintained swimming pool.

The university encompasses 4 constituent colleges, 196 affiliated colleges, 128 outreach centres, 27 institutions, and research centres. UoM offers under-graduate, postgraduate, diploma and online programmes. Courses and departments offered by university are as follows:

Admission

Eligibility

Candidates applying for admission to Master’s Degree / Postgraduate diploma courses should have obtained a minimum of 45 percent (40 percent in case of SC/ ST and Category-I candidates) of marks in Cognate/Optional subjects put together from all the years of the examinations of the course.

Entrance examination is compulsory for all postgraduate degree courses for all candidates except foreign nationals with foreign degree. Candidates need to write separate entrance exams for separate courses, exceptions being M.B.A., M.C.A. M.Tech (CCT) and M.Tech (CST) for which candidates need to contact KEA.

The application for PG entrance examination can also be submitted online through the PG Admissions Portal.

Important instructions to candidates for admission

1. Applications received after the due date will not be entertained.

2. Application with incomplete or incorrect information is liable for rejection.

3. All original documents should be produced at the time of admission.

4. Original degree marks cards and other certificates produced at the time of admission will not be returned until completion of the course or cancellation of admission.

5. Four stamp-size photographs should be produced.

6. Foreign students are required to produce valid student VISA and residential permit at the time of admission.

Achievement

The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India has recognised University of Mysore as an `Institution of Excellence’ and has awarded special grant of Rs.100 Crore for establishing Centre of Excellence in “Biodiversity, Bioprospecting and Sustainable Development’’ and also to strengthen infrastructural facilities in the university.
