The University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES) is a private university located in Dehradun, Uttarakhand well known for education and research in the fields of energy and power. UPES was founded in the year 2003 through UPES Act, 2003 of the State Legislature of Uttarakhand. Its mission is to develop industry focused professionals with global outlook in Energy, Infrastructure, Transportation, IT and allied sectors.
UPES is recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956 and is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
UPES is the one of the first universities of India to offer UG, PG and PhD programmes in the core sectors of petroleum and energy. It is the first Indian energy institution to set up an in-house Bio-Diesel Laboratory.
The 44 acre wifi enabled UPES campus hosts 100 spacious and well lighted multimedia enabled lecture halls, a well-stocked library featuring 73,327 volumes of publications including books, standards, reports, proceedings and more than 150 national and international journals in the fields of Petroleum Exploration, Power, Infrastructure, Chemical, Computer, Electrical, Electronic and Mechanical Engineering, Information Technology and Management.
UPES has also acquired institutional memberships of the British Council Library, the American Centre Library, the AIMA Library, the Central Secretariat Library, and DELNET, IIP, WIHG Dehradun.
UPES hosts well-equipped laboratories for different departments such as Aerospace, Mechanical engineering, civil and chemical engineering, basic science, R & D labs.

Placements:
UPES Dehradun focuses on placements of students every year and the university’s Enhanced Development Growth and Enrichment programme (EDGE) prepares and trains students for recruitments. The EDGE programme organises workshops, skill trainings and mock interviews to prepare students for the placement procedures. Students are also briefed about job opportunities through placement talks delivered by leading organisations of the industry. Besides job offers provided to final semester students, the university also offers a variety of internship opportunities to students to prepare them for their professional careers.
Recent placement highlights- 2020: A placement percentage of 94% was recorded in the 2020 placement drive which witnessed the participation of over 560 companies in the campus recruitments and saw 2318 students placed. The highest CTC was recorded at INR 45 LPA, while the average CTC stood at INR 5.25 LPA. Top recruiters included Amazon, Accenture, Microsoft, HP, Deloitte and HCL.
