A teacher at a private school in Piprauli Barhagaon has been booked for allegedly thrashing a Class 10 student, causing partial hearing loss, police reported on Sunday.
The incident took place on May 13 during a mathematics class at the school, which falls under the Ubhaon police station limits. According to police, the 14-year-old victim was talking to another student when his mathematics teacher, Raghavendra, allegedly slapped him several times near his ear.
The student’s father, Praveen Kumar Madhukar, lodged a complaint stating that the assault led to his son’s right eardrum bursting, resulting in significant hearing difficulties. “My son has been facing difficulty in hearing since the incident,” Madhukar stated in his complaint.
Vipin Singh, SHO of Ubhaon police station, confirmed that a case has been registered against Raghavendra under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) of the Indian Penal Code. The police added that they are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.
Local authorities and the school administration have yet to comment on the incident. The district education officer mentioned that steps are being taken to address such issues and ensure the safety and well-being of students in the region. Parents and community members have expressed outrage and concern over the incident, calling for stricter measures against corporal punishment in schools.
