On Tuesday, a local court sentenced a student to seven years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 11,000 for using a fake Scheduled Caste (SC) certificate to secure admission to the MBBS program at Prayagraj’s Motilal Nehru Medical College.
Amit Kumar Bind, from Ibrahim Pur village in Gopiganj, initially enrolled in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya with an OBC certificate. However, on March 23, 2010, he allegedly obtained a forged SC certificate identifying him as a member of the Khatik caste. He later used this certificate in 2018 to gain admission to Motilal Nehru Medical College under the SC quota, according to Superintendent of Police Meenakshi Katyan.
The forgery came to light when Vijay Bahadur, a Gopiganj resident, filed a complaint on June 7, 2018. Following an investigation, a case was filed, and a chargesheet submitted in court.
After the FIR was registered, the medical college revoked Bind’s admission and expelled him. Special Public Prosecutor Ramesh Chandra said Chief Judicial Magistrate Sabiha Khatoon’s court found Bind guilty, sentencing him to seven years and a fine of Rs 11,000.
