Governor Anandiben Patel announced on Thursday, 22nd August that each of the Uttar Pradesh varsities will soon be adopting villages in the state. Universities will adopt 5 villages and colleges one each, thus contributing to their development. Gujrat and Madhya Pradesh have already implemented this procedure, and Uttar Pradesh will soon be following their footsteps.

While addressing this issue during her convocation at the Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology at Gorakhpur, she explained, “Every state university of Uttar Pradesh will soon adopt five villages and each college will adopt one. Patel is also the chancellor of all universities in the state. She further added, “The blueprint detailing the activities to be performed in adopted villages will be given to vice-chancellors and when all will join hands and work in rural areas, the picture of the state will be changed in five years. The model was adopted in Gujarat and MP and the results are satisfactory.”

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who was also present at the occasion advised students to search for jobs immediately after completing studies. Instead, they could play a proactive role in the development of society. He also said that the convocation ceremony is keeping alive the tradition of ‘gurukuls’ that motivate students to speak the truth, follow the right path and carry self-study.

Adityanath further said, “Technological institutes also must come forward to help in implementing pollution control measures and contribute their expertise in building affordable houses for the underprivileged.” Referring to the importance of technology in multiple fields, the CM said how it has helped in proper distribution of food grains by linking Aadhaar with ration cards, “This has also helped in checking corruption at various levels besides helping the government save crores of rupees. Today, people can buy wheat at Rs 2 per kg and rice at Rs 3 per kg.”
