UP: Headmaster commits suicide, claims harassment by colleagues and BSA

suicide

The body of a government school headmaster was discovered hanging in the institution in Amroha on Tuesday, prompting the district administration to launch an investigation into the suspected suicide.

Sanjeev Kumar, 50, worked at a composite school in the Sultanpur area, under the jurisdiction of Gajraula Police Station. Officials reported that he had alleged harassment from two colleagues and the district’s Basic Education Officer (BSA).

District Magistrate Nidhi Gupta confirmed that Kumar’s body was found in the school, and senior administrative officials were dispatched to the scene. “An investigation team has been formed, led by the Additional DM (Judiciary) and including the Chief Development Officer, District Inspector of Schools, and Additional Superintendent of Police,” Gupta stated.

Regarding the individuals named in the suicide note, she mentioned, “The names mentioned include two school teachers, Raghvendra Singh and Sarita Singh, along with BSA Monika.” She also noted that Kumar had left behind an 18-page register detailing his situation, emphasizing the need to understand why he felt compelled to take such drastic action. Once the investigation is complete, appropriate actions will follow.

In the suicide note, Kumar expressed his despair, stating, “I am fed up with Raghvendra Singh, Sarita Singh, and BSA Madam. It is better to die than to endure their insults, torture, and abuse… I have been suffering their bullying since April 2, 2019. I urge the CBI to investigate them and request that the investigator not be from the Moradabad division, as their influence is widespread there.”

Meanwhile, Kumar’s son, Anuj Singh, shared with reporters that his father had been persistently harassed, with higher authorities turning a blind eye to the situation.
