The Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday, October 10, 2020 declared that schools in the state can reopen for classes 9 to 12 from October 19. The decision comes after the announcement from the Centre that the states and UTs can reopen schools, colleges and education institutions after October 15. According to reports, classes will commence in two shifts in order to maintain social distancing among students.
Students will be allowed to go to schools only after a written permission from their parents or guardians. The UP government said that the schools will resume classes as per the guidelines issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and Uttar Pradesh government.
Deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma said, “In the first phase, Classes 9 to 12 may start in these schools. The schools must run in two shifts of smaller durations, to ensure student safety.” In the first shift, students of classes 9 and 10 may come to school, while in the second shift, classes 11 and 12 students may attend classes, he added. A maximum of 50 per cent students should be called in a day and remaining 50 per cent the following day.
“Only 50% of the total students will be called in a single shift, the rest will be called the next day. Students wanting to attend classes will be allowed only after parents furnish written approval. “Initially, classes IX onwards will be resumed amid strict Covid safety protocol,” said Sharma.
