The Uttar Pradesh health department is utilizing YouTube for continuous medical education and skill-building for government doctors posted in remote areas.
A YouTube channel, “Shukrawar ki Shyam, Doctors ke Naam,” has been launched where specialist doctors conduct demo-cum-PPT presentations every Friday at 6 pm, explained Partha Sarthi Sensharma, principal secretary of the medical health and family welfare department.
“While hundreds of doctors join live, many more watch the episodes later,” Sensharma told PTI.
Over 15 episodes have already been aired and viewed by thousands of doctors. Topics have been carefully selected to address knowledge gaps, including managing acute chest pain, diabetes, hypertension, acne and other skin diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and more.
“The idea is to leverage the reach and power of digital connectivity to enhance the skills and motivation of doctors working in provincial towns, thus improving health service delivery,” Sensharma said.
The initiative also includes interactive Q&A sessions where doctors can ask questions and get instant feedback from specialists, fostering an engaging learning environment. These sessions are recorded and made available on the channel, allowing doctors to access them at their convenience.
In addition to the YouTube channel, the health department is exploring other digital platforms and social media channels to expand the reach of their educational content. Plans are underway to incorporate virtual reality simulations and webinars on advanced medical procedures to further enrich the learning experience for remote healthcare professionals.
“The ultimate goal is to ensure that even doctors in the most remote areas have access to the latest medical knowledge and techniques, thereby enhancing the overall quality of healthcare services in the state,” Sensharma added.
This innovative approach is part of a broader strategy to modernize medical education and training in Uttar Pradesh, ensuring that healthcare providers are well-equipped to meet the evolving needs of their communities.
