A man arrived at a private school in the city and pronounced “triple talaq” on his wife in front of her students while she was teaching, according to police reports on Thursday.
A case has been filed against the woman’s husband based on her complaint to the police. She alleged that her husband, identified as Mohammad Shakeel, gave her “triple talaq” upon his return from Saudi Arabia. In her complaint, the woman detailed a history of abuse from her husband and in-laws, who had allegedly subjected her to dowry-related harassment since their marriage three years ago.
She stated that her husband had gone to Saudi Arabia without informing her, leaving her at her maternal home. Upon his return, he asked her to come back with him, but she declined, leading to the recent incident at her school.
The husband’s actions, pronouncing “triple talaq” in front of her students during her class, have resulted in a case being registered against him. The charges include assault, intimidation, dowry harassment, and violations under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019, as “triple talaq” was declared illegal and unconstitutional in India in 2019.
