Police reported on Monday that a primary school teacher has been charged for allegedly assaulting a Class 6 student and making casteist remarks after the student refused to touch his feet.

According to the complaint filed by the boy’s father, Akaljeet, his son Manish sustained serious injuries to his eyes and back during the incident at Murarpur Primary School. The accused teacher, Ravishankar Pandey, a mathematics teacher at the school, faces charges under the SC/ST Act.

The incident reportedly occurred on March 27 during recess when Pandey demanded that Manish touch his feet as a sign of respect. When the boy declined, Pandey allegedly physically attacked him, causing injuries. The teacher then verbally abused him and threatened expulsion from the school.
