Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) is a private co-educational university located in the Vellore district of Tamil Nadu. Founded in 1984 as the Vellore Engineering College by G. Vishwanathan, a former Member of Parliament and minister in the government of Tamil Nadu, VIT boasts nine schools offering 15 undergraduate, 30 post graduate programs and 13 research centers.
VIT has been accredited with the highest grade ‘A’ by the National Board of Accreditation and has been conferred the ‘Deemed University’ status by the Government of India, Ministry of Human Resource Development and the University Grants Commission, New Delhi.
VIT took off with a vision to “impart quality technical education to cater to the needs of all societies and maintain a high standard of discipline through a dedicated, involved and committed staff; and to promote knowledge wise superior students and to make them ethically strong”.
VIT campus sprawls over 250 acres with well-planned and comprehensive infrastructure to cater to the needs of the students and faculty. Computer centers are equipped with the latest technology and include 55 servers and over 1000 computers. Modern laboratories enable students and researchers to keep abreast of emerging trends and applications. The library at VIT is housed in a 25 000 sq. ft centrally air conditioned building with over 40,000 books and 4400 back volumes of scientific and technical periodicals. The library also subscribes to 300 specialized journals.
The institute has a dedicated 65 kb and two mb leased line connectivity to internet through VSNL and Dishnet DSL, providing global information access to the staff and students. E-mail accounts are provided for all students and staff members.
VIT offers excellent sports facilities including outdoor and indoor play areas, an outdoor stadium on a 30 acre plot with a 400 metre athletics track and a seating capacity of 2000 students in the covered stand.
The health centre at VIT is staffed with well qualified medical professionals with separate wards for male and female.

Extracurricular: Co-curricular and extracurricular activities are planned and executed through a number of associations, clubs, societies and students’ chapters of professional bodies. They are owned and managed by representatives of students and are monitored by the faculty in-charge.
Placements:
The placement and training (PAT) centre plays a vital role in creating the illustrious placement record of VIT. It ensures smooth functioning of the placement activities in the campus. The centre further facilitates training activities of the students and makes sure they get placed in the best of both national and international companies.
2021 placement highlights: 382 companies have offered over 7403 jobs (4503 multiple offers) to VIT students in phase-I of VIT’s placement drive. The leading companies participating in the placement drive included Microsoft, Wipro, Bosch and Philips, while the average CTC stood at INR 6.39 LPA (UG) and INR 6.07 LPA (PG).

A total of 17 hostels are housed within VIT campus comprising thirteen men’s hostels, with a capacity to accommodate 7000 students and four women’s hostels which can accommodate 3200 students. A gym facility is also available with well maintained swimming pool.
Women students have access to gym facilities and a newly built swimming pool within the women’s hostel premises.
