Vivek High School (VHS), Chandigarh is a coeducational day school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. Established on April 4, 1984 the school is run under the auspices of the Bhagwant Singh Charitable Trust.
The school is named Vivek after a house of an ancient Buddhist University in Nalanda, which means discernment, judgment and enlightenment. VHS aims to equip students with the knowledge, skills and qualities required to discriminate between right and wrong, and use this ability judiciously and with integrity.
Since its inception, the student strength has grown from 58 to 1678 and the present faculty strength is 120. VHS caters to the individual needs of the students with a teacher student ratio of 1:15.
The school hosts three computers labs, one each for the junior wing, the secondary wing and the senior secondary wing. The labs are equipped with the latest computers with second generation i5 processors. The science laboratories are well lit, airy and spacious and every student has his or her own workstation and equipment.
The library features over 10,000 books and subscriptions to several newsletters, periodicals, magazines and newspapers. It is equipped with internet facility, audio-visual equipment and a collection of compact discs, movies, documentaries and slides.
The school tuck shop serves hot and cold beverages, fruit juices, Indian snacks, sandwiches, soups and a variety of food to suit the students’ palates and tastes. The school book shop supplies text books, notebooks, the school diary, school track-suits, ties, belts, badges etc. Sports facilities include a basketball court, an outdoor badminton court, a football ground, a practice pitch for cricket, gymnastics apparatus and a standard 200m athletics track.
For nursery children, the school follows a multi-sensory approach that combines games, stories, music, phonetics etc. to enable language, emotional, physical, motor and cognitive development, creativity, aesthetic and music appreciation.
At the age of four children are introduced to the English language through phonetics and simple number-work through the play-way method. Special care is taken to inculcate discipline and good study habits. Through recognition of multiple intelligences and using a layered curriculum, the staff provides opportunity for students to direct their own learning within a framework crafted to help them succeed.
At senior school, from class IV to class IX, students is imparted a formal syllabus. Classroom teaching is complemented and supplemented with experiments, creativity, handwork, models and audio visual presentations, excursions group activity, library and internet researches and projects.
Computer Science is taught as a compulsory subject from classes IV to X and as an elective subject for classes XI and XII. Senior secondary classes follow the CBSE curriculum and two different streams – Computer Science and Multimedia and Web Technology are taught at this level.

If the child is a sibling of a current attendee, or lives in the neighborhood, or is a staff child, or is the child of alumni, he/she would get preference for admission. The school publishes three requests for applications – on November 5, 9 and 12. The last date for receipt of applications is November 21 by 3:00 pm. Selection is done through draw of lots in December and the admission selection list is displayed on January 7, followed by completion of formalities and payment of fees on January 17, 2012.
The school commences classes for nursery in the first week of April.

For students applying under Right to Education (RTE) Act:-
The tuition fee and admission fee are exempted provided the administration deposits the fee in the month of April 2012 for those admitted under this Act. All other charges as applicable are to be borne by the student. The name of the applicant must appear in the child mapping list of Chandigarh administration and the child must reside within 1 km of the school premises as per RTE norms.

The school’s faculty member, Preeti Sharma was awarded the National ICT (Information and Communication Technology) Award for School Teachers. She was felicitated by the Honorable President of India, Pranab Mukherjee on September 5, 2012 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
Another staff member, Reetika Khanna was selected for the Distinguished Fulbright Awards in Teaching Program which is a prestigious program designed to increase mutual understanding between the citizens of United States and other countries.
Being a day school, accommodation facilities are not provided.
