Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee underwent more than nine hours of questioning by Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on Wednesday in connection with the alleged school jobs scam in West Bengal, according to officials. Banerjee, who serves as the party’s national general secretary, was questioned by ED officials from 11:30 AM to 8:40 PM.
An ED official explained that Banerjee was summoned to provide evidence related to irregularities in school recruitment. During the questioning, three of his colleagues inquired about his role and association with “Leaps and Bounds,” the company allegedly involved in the scam. They asked about Banerjee’s connection to the company and whether he still held the position of director.
When asked if Banerjee cooperated with the ED officials, the officer confirmed that he did.
Banerjee had submitted a supplementary affidavit to the Calcutta High Court the day before, claiming that a new summons from the ED, while his revisional application challenging previous summons was pending, was “legally flawed.” The affidavit stated that Banerjee had been summoned to provide evidence and argued that the ED was conducting a broad and unfocused inquiry to involve him in the alleged teacher recruitment scam.
