West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose conducted a virtual meeting with interim vice-chancellors of state universities, addressing various academic and administrative challenges faced by these institutions.
During the meeting, the governor, who is also the chancellor of state-run universities, emphasized the need to operate the universities in the students’ best interests. He urged the VCs to strengthen anti-ragging committees and assured them of his availability for advice via phone.
A total of 22 interim VCs, appointed by Bose since May, participated in the meeting, although this move had previously sparked criticism from the state government, citing a lack of consultation. The Raj Bhavan defended the appointments, highlighting the necessity to address the leadership vacuum caused by the retirement of permanent VCs.
