Wipro announces winners of earthian 2014

On February 7, Bengaluru headquartered Wipro Ltd. (NYSE:WIT), a leading global information technology, consulting and business process services company, announced the winners of the fourth edition of its earthian program. Aimed at creating spaces for sustainability learning and action within the education process in schools and colleges, the program is divided into three segments of activities aimed at building skills, attitudes and values to shape a sustainable future.
earthian, Wipro’s sustainability education program is designed in two phases. In phase one, Wipro invites schools and colleges to participate in the program across the nation and the world. This phase concludes with the selection of the best educational institutional entries. In the second phase, these selected institutions are enrolled as a part of a continuous engagement program. This joint, collaborative engagement brings the winning institutes, Wipro, and sustainability expert partners together to learn from unique learning experiences for the teachers, students, and institutions.

earthian 2014 had the schools participate in an activity based program around the central theme of ‘Water in our school’. This program focused on imparting a better learning and understanding of the theme through various activities. In the second segment of the program, the schools were asked to submit essays that conveyed the essence of their understanding of the theme.

In the 2014 edition of the annual earthian program, Wipro received over 500 submissions from across India, from which 23 institutes have been selected as winners by an independent expert jury.

The winning institutions were awarded a trophy and cash prizes. The awards were distributed by Azim Premji, chairman, Wipro Ltd. as part of a day-long event at Mount Carmel College in Bengaluru that saw an interesting agenda of expert talks, a young achievers panel discussion and musical performances.
