World Sports Journalists Day was established by the International Sports Press Association in 1994 to mark the 70th anniversary of its foundation.
ISPA was founded on the July 2, 1924 during the Summer Olympics in Paris. It comprises continental and national associations.
Its partners are big sports federations, such as International Olympic Committee, FIFA, IAAF and others.
The sports journalists around the world are united by the ISPA.
Today, sports has become a burgeoning global business with huge money involved ranging from sponsorships to staging Olympic games and World Cups.

World Sports Journalists Day is observed across the globe every year with much pomp and gaiety.
This day was particularly created to celebrate the achievements of members of the sporting media.
It aims at encouraging the sports journalists to strive for excellence in their work and to set an example to the world.
This day also encourages the journalists to work harder and invites more people into the profession.
Most countries have their individual national associations for sports journalists. Sports Journalists’ Federation of India (SJFI) was set up on February 27, 1976.
In India too various sports associations, and SJFI celebrate this day by acknowledging the contributing of the scribes towards sports.
