Choosing the right career is one of the most difficult decisions that a student faces. The Design field today offers a range of new and lucrative career options in India.
With a unique curriculum that encourages creativity, innovation, academic excellence and industry preparedness, WUD aspires to create an environment of high quality trans-disciplinary education with a design foundation across both undergraduate and postgraduate level. The university offers India’s largest creative and comprehensive course catalogue with 24 specialised undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across design arenas such as Fashion, Communication, Visual Arts, Design & Retail Management, Professional Automotive Modeling and Architecture.
Elaborating on the study programmes offered at WUD, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, vice chancellor, said, “Companies are increasingly applying design principles to strategy and innovation today. Designers are an intrinsic part of a company’s core strategy and product development. India’s annual consumption of design services, that was estimated at Rs. 3,400 crore a few years back, has grown at an estimated rate of 400 percent per annum. Design has therefore emerged as a mainstream career option and has brought in opportunities that far outstrip the supply of design professionals. India currently produces about 2000 design professionals a year against a requirement of 8,000 to 10,000. At WUD, we not only teach the concepts of design, but our unique teaching pedagogy, interdisciplinary research and international collaborations make students industry ready and capable of working as part of a cross-discipline team.”
Design today forms the foundation of most businesses, and designers work closely with engineers, scientists and marketing personnel to create environments, spaces, products, processes and services that are not only functional but commercially viable and acceptable to consumers.
There is a host of employment opportunities for design professionals across sectors as diverse as publishing, furniture, fashion, software, F&B, consumer products, automobiles, electronics, software, construction, media, to name a few.
A graduate from WUD would typically start their career with a salary package between INR 3 to 10 lakh per annum. After some years of hands on experience with a few good brands, the salary package can soar to to 15 lakh per annum.
Applications for admission can be made online on the university’s website. Students can fill and submit the forms by April 2 and the admission test will take place on April 8, 2018. The new session will commence from August 1, 2018.
