The Maharashtra State Level Steering Committee for Curriculum of the State Board of Education has approved the new curriculum for classes 2 to 6, school education minister Dadaji Bhuse announced in Mumbai on Tuesday.
The curriculum for classes 2 to 5 was approved earlier whereas class 6 was approved in a meeting held today by the Maharashtra Primary Education Council under the chairmanship of the school education minister.
Senior officials who attended the meeting included minister of state for school education Dr. Pankaj Bhoyar, principal secretary Ranjitsinh Deol, commissioner Sachchandra Pratap Singh, chairman of the State Board of Education Trigun Kulkarni, director of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Dr. Hemant Vasekar, director of Balbharti, Anuradha Oak, director of education (secondary) Mahesh Palkar, director of education (planning) Krishnakumar Patil and members of the Steering Committee.
Bhuse said that the new curriculum will be implemented from the academic term starting in June 2026.
According to the National Education Policy, curriculum plans based on learning outcomes are framed by the State Steering Committee on determining the level of difficulty of students.
After the requisite approvals have been granted by the Curriculum Coordination Committee of the school education commissioner, textbooks are prepared by Bal Bharati, Maharashtra State Bureau of Textbook Production & Curriculum Research and made available to schools at the beginning of the new academic term.
The state education minister is the ex-officio chairman of the Bureau which is responsible for the production of school textbooks, teacher’s handbooks, self-study booklets, educational material as well as the printing, publishing, storage, distribution and sale of textbooks and educational material.
SCERT held training camps this month for local teachers, the training of district-level teachers will be taken up next, Bhuse said.
