The Delhi High Court on Friday declined to direct the reopening of the CBSE Class 12 re-evaluation portal, observing that any extension would delay the overall result-related process.
A vacation bench of Justices Neena Bansal Krishna and Madhu Jain said students who were individually aggrieved could pursue appropriate legal remedies. The court noted that the re-evaluation portal had remained open from June 2 to June 7 and that reopening it would affect the timeline for processing results.
The order came while hearing a public interest litigation filed by the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), which sought the reopening of the portal and an inquiry into alleged irregularities in the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) on-screen marking (OSM) system.
Appearing for the authorities, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta argued that extending the deadline would impact the admission process for more than 17 lakh students. He informed the court that over 1.67 lakh students had submitted requests covering around 3.8 lakh answer scripts for verification and re-evaluation.
Mehta also said that a separate portal for obtaining scanned copies of answer sheets had operated from May 19 to May 25, receiving requests from around four lakh students for more than 11 lakh answer scripts.
The court listed the matter before the roster bench in July after a request from the petitioner.
The NSUI has alleged that concerns over the OSM system arose following a decline in Class 12 results and complaints regarding discrepancies, scanning issues and technical glitches. The petition has sought manual verification of answer sheets, safeguards for future digital evaluation systems and compensation in cases involving missing or blurred answer scripts.
