The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Thursday night declared the results of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Undergraduate) retest, Re-NEET (UG) 2026 , with 11.21 lakh candidates qualifying for admission to undergraduate medical, dental, AYUSH and allied programmes.
Nearly 20 lakh candidates appeared for the examination conducted on June 21 at 5,440 centres in 551 cities across India and 14 cities abroad. The examination was held in 13 languages.
It maybe recollected that NEET (UG) 2026 was re-conducted on June 21 after the NTA, with the approval of the Centre, cancelled the original May 3 examination following allegations of a question paper leak. The decision affected nearly 22 lakh candidates and was taken to preserve the integrity of the examination while central agencies investigated the alleged leak. The re-examination was held under enhanced security measures.
An official communication from NTA said that candidates from every state and Union Territory appeared for the examination, with qualified candidates emerging from all 36 states and Union Territories. More than 58 percent of the qualified candidates are women.
Qualified candidates range from over 1.7 lakh in Uttar Pradesh to 43 in Lakshadweep. State toppers include Jigmet Yangchan Lamo (Ladakh, 530 marks), Dhruv Tripathi (Andaman and Nicobar Islands, 606 marks) and Fahmida Anees (Lakshadweep, 573 marks). State toppers were recorded from every North-Eastern state. Seventeen state toppers scored 700 marks or above, while 26 scored above 690.
Nineteen candidates scored above 700 out of 720 marks, 1,492 candidates scored 650 and above, 10,160 candidates scored 600 and above, while 90,780 candidates secured 500 marks or more. The highest score of 715 out of 720 was jointly secured by Aryan Gupta of Punjab and Panshul Bansal of Haryana.
Women qualified at a higher rate than men, with 56.8 per cent of women who appeared clearing the examination compared to 55.1 per cent of men.
The provisional answer key was released on June 25, the challenge window remained open till June 28, scanned OMR answer sheets and recorded responses were displayed from July 13 to 15, and the final answer key and results were published on July 16.
Counselling for the All India Quota MBBS and BDS seats will be conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), while State quota counselling will be conducted by the respective state authorities.
