Bengaluru Police have registered a case against a mathematics teacher following allegations that he assaulted a Class 9 student with a stick at a private school in L.R. Bande, Kaval Byrasandra, in north Bengaluru.
The complaint was lodged by the student’s mother, who alleged that the teacher hit her daughter on her hand and back, resulting in swelling and injuries. She said the family first brought the matter to the attention of the student’s class teacher and the school management but was dissatisfied with the response.
The woman, a resident of Kadugondanahalli, also alleged that this was not the first instance of physical punishment involving her daughter, claiming that the teacher had beaten the student on three occasions previously but the family chose not to escalate the issue.
Based on the complaint, Devarajeevanahalli police registered a case under Section 118 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), relating to voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt using dangerous weapons or means.
A senior police officer said the teacher acknowledged hitting the student but told investigators that he had done so after finding her involved in a fight with another student in the classroom. Police have served a notice on the teacher and are continuing their inquiry into the incident and the earlier allegations.
