IIT Ropar’s ANNAM.AI has launched AVNI – Grow with Nature, a digital learning initiative that uses artificial intelligence (AI) and experiential learning to introduce children to agriculture and nature.
Designed and developed by Dr Mukesh Saini, Co-project Director of ANNAM.AI, AVNI is a web and mobile app that enables children to explore crops, plants and food through their surroundings.
The platform uses AI-powered identification and hands-on learning to help children explore crops, fruits, vegetables, spices, cereals and millets. It offers content in Hindi and English, along with audio for younger children.
AVNI also includes daily challenges, Nature Points, a digital Nature Book, Nature Gallery and interactive features such as Crop Compare. The platform is free, ad-free and designed with a focus on privacy and child safety.
“We are working towards making agricultural knowledge accessible and engaging for the children. AVNI has been developed as a free, ad-free and privacy-focused learning platform, keeping the experience simple, safe and focused on learning and discovery,” said Dr Saini.
Dr Pushpendra P. Singh, Project Director, ANNAM.AI, IIT Ropar, said the initiative aims to connect children with agriculture through everyday experiences, such as a crop in a school garden, a fruit at home or a plant growing in their neighbourhood.
ANNAM.AI said AVNI is part of its broader work at the intersection of AI, agriculture, education and public-interest technology.
The initiative is also aligned with ANNAM.AI’s vision of developing AI-powered Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) for Indian agriculture through open, accessible and scalable solutions that can be adapted to different agricultural contexts.
