Rajiv Gandhi University, Itanagar, formerly known as Arunachal University, is a premier institution of higher learning in Arunachal Pradesh whose foundation stone was laid on February 4, 1984 by Late Smt. Indira Gandhi. The university started functioning from April 1, 1985 and was upgraded to a central university on April 9, 2007 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
Rajiv Gandhi University boasts 15 affiliated colleges and offers undergraduate, postgraduate, B.Ed, MPhil and PhD programmes.
Campus
The 302 university campus hosts a well stocked library with a collection of over 54519 books, VSAT facility, bioinformatics facility, EDUSAT facility, an instrument maintenance facility, auditorium and a women techno park. The campus also hosts a computer centre, health centre and a botanical garden.
The campus houses facilities for indoor games such as badminton, table tennis and carom and outdoor games such as basketball, volleyball, cricket and football.

Achievement
Rajiv Gandhi University is the first university to be established in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, the university became a central university on April 9, 2007 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
Accommodation
The university campus provides accommodation to 491 students housed in separate hostels for girls and boys. The girls’ hostels are Pare Hall of Residence, Dibang Hall of Residence and Kameng Hall of Residence, the boys hostels are Subansiri Halls of Residence, Lohit Halls of Residence, Siang Halls of Residence and Tirap Halls of Residence.
