The Cochin Refineries School, Kochi was promoted in 1966 for the children of the employees of the erstwhile Kochi Refineries Ltd (KRL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) after KRL’s merger with BPCL. The school is situated on the picturesque hilltop of Jwalagiri, and run by the Cochin Refineries Educational Aid Society and managed by a Board of Governors nominated by the management of BPCL-Kochi Refineries.
The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Delhi, and students are prepared for the All-India Secondary School Examination (AISSE) and the All-India Senior School Certificate Examination (AISSCE) at the end of class X and class XII respectively.
Cochin Refineries School offers education from kindergarten to class XII.
The school is sited on the picturesque hilltop of Jwalagiri and offers well-ventilated classrooms and infrastructure. A well-furnished audiovisual room with a seating capacity for 40 students has a wall mounted LCD projector to an internet enabled PC, educational CD ROMs, video tapes and audio cassettes.
It hosts a spacious and well-stocked library with a collection of more than 5,000 books in different categories.
The reference section has encyclopedias and dictionaries in many languages. Computer science, physics, chemistry and biology and math labs house latest equipment and hardware as per specifications of the CBSE.
School term is from June to March each year and ends with the terminal examination. The school follows the CCE (continuous and comprehensive evaluation) system. Efforts are made by the school to provide special care and remedial classes for students with learning difficulties.
