A 20-year-old college student from Bengaluru was found dead after allegedly jumping into Sankey Tank in Sadashivanagar area following an altercation with her boyfriend.
The deceased has been identified as a second-year B.Com student from Chikkabanavara. She allegedly left her residence on Sunday evening after an argument.
Her family alerted the police after she failed to return home and could not be contacted. Investigators tracked her last known location to the lake, following which a search operation was launched. Rescue teams later recovered her body from the tank.
Prima facie, police said that the student had been distressed following the quarrel. Investigators are analysing her mobile phone, verifying her movements before the incident and recording statements from family members, friends and the boyfriend to establish the sequence of events.
The body has been shifted for a post-mortem examination. A case of unnatural death has been registered at the Sadashivanagar Police Station, and further investigation is in progress. Police said there is no immediate indication of foul play, although all aspects of the case are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
