Sprawling across a green 100-acre campus in Indore (Madhya Pradesh) — India’s cleanest city according to the Union housing ministry — and a short drive away from IIT-Indore (IIT, estb.2009) and IIM-Indore, (estb.1996) is Emerald Heights International School (EHIS, estb.1982). Drawing inspiration from the education philosophy of renowned seer-philosopher Sri Aurobindo Ghosh (1872-1950) and his spiritual successor The Mother, EHIS has built an excellent reputation nationwide for providing its students holistic, values-based academic education supplemented with a wide range of co-curricular and sports options with special focus on internationalism. In the latest EducationWorld India School Rankings 2025-26, EHIS is ranked India’s #1 and Madhya Pradesh’s #1 day-cum-boarding school.
An active member institution of the Indian Public Schools Conference (IPSC, estb.1939), an exclusive fraternity of 80 premier boarding schools countrywide, the CBSE-affiliated EHIS has an enrolment of 3,480 students — including 783 boarders — mentored by 162 teachers.
Founded by educationist-philanthropist couple Suneeta and Muktesh Singh, EHIS admitted its first batch of 12 students 44 years ago in a modest building with two classrooms. Their exposure to global best education practices shaped the school’s progressive and internationally minded outlook. The duo worked tirelessly to promote quality education as a means of social transformation.

Siddharth Singh
In 2011, their son Siddharth Singh, a business management graduate of Stony Brook University, New York, took charge of EHIS. Since then, the Emerald Heights Group of Schools has expanded to three K-12 schools including the all-girls The Niranjana School (estb.2021) — ranked Madhya Pradesh’s #2 girls day school by EducationWorld — and the more recent co-ed Emerald Heights World School (estb.2024) — all in Indore.
“We are committed to developing and implementing our model of Integral Education aligned with the needs of 21st century learners. We believe every child has unique talents, abilities, and aspirations. In Emerald Heights schools, these competencies are identified, nurtured, and celebrated through student-centric education. We strive to create an environment of freedom, care, safety, and mutual respect to nurture confident, critical thinking, compassionate, and responsible global citizens. Through balanced delivery of academic excellence, character building, leadership development, creativity, and service to society, students are nurtured to develop intellectual curiosity, generosity of spirit, environmental consciousness, and deep concern for humanity,” says Siddharth Singh, Director of the EHIS Group.
Also, a member of the Board of the London-based Round Square and as Chairperson of the India Board of the US-based AFS, Singh has deeply embedded internationalism into the school’s culture through student and teacher exchange programmes, Model United Nations, Round Square conferences, WLSA collaborations, and global partnerships. Students of all schools are facilitated to participate in academic exchanges between schools in the US, UK, Germany, France, Spain, South Africa, Brazil, Argentina, and Egypt.
To ensure attainment of its objective of nurturing well-rounded young learners, the flagship EHIS management has invested heavily in establishing world-class academic and sports infrastructure. The fully wi-fi enabled castle-inspired campus hosts a spacious three-storeyed academic block with 104 air-conditioned classrooms equipped with interactive Smartboards. Its iconic 5,000-seat Maharana Pratap Sports Complex for sports, cultural, educational and community events; Tathagat, a sound-proof 200-seat auditorium furbished with studios and activity halls, and a fully equipped medical infirmary, ensure student well-being with a counseling cell providing students psychological and career advice. The school’s management takes special pride in its 16 Innovative Skill Development Laboratories to develop students’ critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills. Moreover, the school houses Nalanda — The Resource Centre-cum-Library which houses 50,000 books and subscribes to 45 journals, magazines, and periodicals. For its 783 boarders, the school provides separate boarding houses — air-conditioned, spacious and well-maintained dormitories — for boys and girls.
“EHIS is shaped to meet the evolving needs of 21st-century learners. Therefore, we have taken pains to design a dynamic, inquiry-driven and interdisciplinary curriculum to make experiential learning an essential experience of every child’s academic progression. Moreover, by leveraging our strong parent and alumni networks, we facilitate summer programmes in renowned higher ed institutions, internship opportunities and encourage students to participate in adventure and educational tours and community engagement initiatives. Project-based learning is also actively promoted by connecting students with prestigious organisations and programmes such as GRIP, Corporate Gurukul, Singapore, Shoolini University, Shiv Nadar University, Lumiere Education, and Pioneer Academics. And to ensure quality education delivery we continuously sign up our teachers for professional development workshops and training programs,” says Singh.

EHIS shooting range: globally benchmarked facilities
In EHIS, sports education is accorded equal importance with academics. Globally benchmarked sports facilities include two indoor shooting ranges — 10m, 25m and 50m; climbing walls for lead, speed and bouldering; a 400m, nine-lane synthetic athletics track; banked skating track; two cricket fields; four football grounds; 25m swimming pool; nine wood floor badminton; six squash and lawn tennis; six basketball; six volleyball; two handball; three throwball, three netball courts, a roller hockey court, a golf hitting range, a hockey ground and dedicated rooms for table tennis, chess, billiards, martial arts and yoga. With this extensive sports infrastructure and professional guidance provided by 53 professional sports coaches it is no surprise that EHIS students have consistently excelled at national-level shooting and netball competitions.
Nor is co-curricular education — dance, theatre, instrumental and vocal music, fine arts, digital art, classical and Western dance, sculpture — neglected. It is an integral part of the curriculum providing diverse opportunities for creative expression and physical development. In addition, a wide range of student-run clubs develop students’ literary, creative, technical, and artistic skills.
The EHIS management’s focus on holistic education has paid off by way of excellent board exam results. Of the 371 students who wrote the CBSE class X exam in February 2026, 167 averaged above 90 percent while school topper Aarna Kapre averaged 99.2 percent. Of the 294 students who wrote the class XII exam, 104 averaged above 90 percent with topper Sadhya Maheshwari averaging 97.8 percent. EHIS graduates are routinely admitted into top-ranked higher ed institutions countrywide and around the world.
Likewise, sustainability and environment education is accorded high priority in EHIS and associate schools. EHIS’ solar power plant meets 20-25 percent of its annual energy needs, and energy efficiency is promoted through solar water heaters, LED lighting, and naturally ventilated buildings. Water conservation is supported by 150 rainwater-harvesting recharge pits and a Sewage Treatment Plant that recycles 5,000 litres of wastewater per day for irrigation.
With EHIS having established an excellent reputation countrywide, Singh projects the next five years as a “period of purposeful growth, innovation, and transformation”. “Our future roadmap is centred on building an educational ecosystem that prepares students not only for higher education but also for workplaces leadership in an increasingly interconnected and rapidly changing world. Therefore, we will continue to invest in teacher empowerment through continuous professional development, and leadership training programmes. By combining global academic standards with strong Indian values, innovation with inclusivity, and excellence with compassion, we are committed to building a transformative K-12 education model that prepares students to thrive and lead in an ever-changing world,” says Siddharth Singh.
